John (sscpackers)

I noted the "dress code" mentioned for Monte Carlo. We are planning on spending some time there; what was the dress code?

Hi Ally,

I wanted to mention that you can fly nonstop to Nice from New York on Delta Airlines. Don't know what city you're in , but thought this might be good to know.
Also, you have a couple of options getting from Nice to Paris. Quickest way, obviously is to fly. It's about an hour and twenty minutes. There's a new TGV line from Marseille ( which is about a two hour train ride from Nice) to Paris ( travel time about four hours) or you could take a train to Aix-en-Provence ( about two and a half hours) and I think that there's a new TGV route from there to Paris as well.

Dear Ally,
I'm busy preparing to leave NY this month for a week so I can't really find all the stuff I have on Nice. If you want to Email me to remind me after Oct. 4th I'll be happy to look up stuff for you. I adore the place which has a great Chagall museum, is close to Villefranch Sur Mer which is charming and also has a wonderful chapel by Cocteau etc. Everything is accessible from Nice by bus or train including a one track train up the mountains, St Paul de Veance and Vence, Antibes, etc. etc. etc. If you love art and scenery and don't want to drive Nice is perfect as much for the accessibility of lots of other places. But there are lovely parks, good restaurants etc. in Nice itself. Do go especially if you're a lover of modern art. Betty

you definitely need to go to Paris. The train ride should be about 3 hours by TGV. You also might want to rent a car and drive from Paris to Nice. As previously noted, Nice is a good place to base yourself for some roaming around. If you do plan to explore, you are going to need a vehicle. If you do drive from Paris to Nice, I suggest driving at a lesiurely pace and spend some time seeing parts on the way. you should be able to get an open jaw flight into Paris and out of Nice with minimal difference in price. Have a great time. The French are wonderful hosts as long as you treat and the country is most interesting.
