Year 2000 Hype
 

I have seen so many travel offers for the end of 1999 and next year regarding the new millenium. I can't understand what all the hype is about? Surely everyone realizes the NEW millenium is 2001, not next year. <BR>Any explanations for all the hype? <BR>Lisa

Hi Lisa, <BR>you are correct, the new millenium starts in 2001. But I have come up with two explanations (rationalizations??) for the hype: <BR> <BR>1 -- Its not the millenium that we are celebrating, its rolling over the thousands digit. After all, that's pretty cool <BR> <BR>2 -- I bet they did the same thing in the year 1000, and I bet then that some folks complained that the 2nd millenium didn't start until 1001. So lets get over it already. The first millenium only had 999 years, because there was no year 0. Now we can start the 2nd one, which really did start in the year 1000. <BR> <BR>just having some fun :-) <BR>--beth

That's right Beth, 2000 is the real millenium. The one before this was only a wannabee that couldn't measure up. <BR>

In the year 1000, did everyone have to work on New Year's like we do now? Sometimes I yearn for the simpler times!!!
