Yeah! The 2006 Winter Olympics will be right near our house!
 

In Torino, Italy! My husband came in last night and woke me up to tell me that we would have great seats to the next Olympics. We have a house in Masserano, which is quite close to Torino. He said to start planning now since we'll be there. I know it's 4 years away, but we've never been to the Olympics and our sons will be great ages - 13 and 16, by then. Question for anyone who's been, just how early do you have to get tickets, a year ahead?

About a year, eighteen months at the most. But, be warned the tickets are very expensive -- here in the US they are at least a couple of hundred dollars for each venue. My parents went to the 1980 Olympics in Los Angeles, they had a great time, but it was expensive. But, what is money for except for enjoyment.

Yikes! A couple of hundred dollars EACH? So each event will run our family around $ 800? Ouch. Oh well, they (and I) love snowboarding, so maybe we'll just watch that and just spend the rest of the time soaking up the atmosphere! Good thing we have 4 years to save up for it.

My son just returned from SLC, and I am horrified at the prices he quoted that the restaurants, hotels,bars, (and even Kinko's!) were charging for things--triple or quadruple the regular prices. $60,70, and 80 cover charges at bars, eg. Face value for opening and closing ceremony tix were around $800 and going for much more for that on the street. I think that's taking such unfair advantage of those who travel to see the Olympics. I,too, would like to go to Torino in '06 and hope they don't follow our lead in pricing. 'Nuff said!

Maybe you can volunteer somehow and get in free!

Well, I'm not interested in opening or closing ceremonies (big yawn IMHO), but grasshopper you might have something there! Do families of athletes get a discount? If so I'm strapping the boards on my kids and sending them up the ski lift now, who knows, discounted tickets might be just the incentive for the '06 U.S. snowboarding team! ;)

Nina,<BR>not sure that they ar that expensive for all the events<BR>I read an article yesterday, <BR>(concerning families from my area who traveled to SLC cause their children were in this years Olympics)<BR>One father did state that single tickets to the freestyle ski events ran from $45-95 per.<BR>So, Leslie is correct in how high they can go,<BR>but, maybe if you get them early enough, you can get the lower end ones.<BR>Have fun!<BR>I heard that on the news, and thought <BR>"how cool" cause I love anything Italy!!
