Xmas Day in London..what to do?
My partner and I will be in London from 12/23 to the evening of 12/25 and although it appears that there will be plenty to do on the 23rd and 24th we are looking for suggestions for the 25th. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks. |
Here are some tours:
http://www.sightseeingtours.co.uk/lo...xmas_tours.htm http://www.walks.com/index.asp?pageID=19 And you could attend services at St. Paul's, Westminster, etc. The Tube is closed, as I have learned from reading here, so you'll have to get around some other way. I'll be in London too with my wife and mother -- maybe we'll see you around! |
Two buses are running (not literlly!)around the west end. Check the tfl website.
Get up early and head to The Serpentine lake on Hyde Park for 9.00 to see the annual swim by the local swimming club - mad fools! London when it's quiet is made for walking so let's hope for good weather. I am likely to be around (wife away with parents) so if you want a guide of sorts, you are welcome to contact me on [email protected] or [email protected] Have a great trip Adam |
Thank you both for the options and website links!!
Happy Holidays to you both!! |
I would like to second the suggestion for London Walks. Last year I was in London around Christmas and I was surprised to learn the walks were operating, even on Christmas day. I went on the Dickens walk last year and I really enjoyed it. I have also done ghost walks and Jack the Ripper, although the latter can be very crowded. I hope to do more walks next time I visit London.

A friend of mine was in London on Christmas day a few years ago. She rented a car and, taking advantage of the very light traffic, drove around London, stopping at different sites to take photographs without throngs of tourists everywhere.
Even if you didn't want to drive, a walk-about would be a great photo opportunity. |
More details on the walks from London Original Walks (www.walks.com)
They are running (no pun intended) 3 walks on Christmas Day, all starting from the Christmas Tree in Trafalger Square: 10.00 Samuel Pepys' London 11.00 Christmas morning in the Old Palce Quarter 2.00 The Christmas Day Charles Dickens London Walk Happy strolling |
Here is a note from our poster flanneruk about a museum that will be open on Christmas Day:
