Wrest Park: long-neglected garden being restored, reopened to public today

This is a nice success story for people who appreciate gardens, landscape, architecture and historic preservation. Wrest Park in Bedfordshire was designed about 300 years ago but has been overgrown and neglected for a long time. Until now. English Heritage has a 20 year plan for restoration and enough has been completed so that it opened today to the public. It looks like a magnificent place to visit. I wonder how long until we see a lush period piece production using the property as a location? That would be great -- and bring in more money for the restoration project.

You can get a glimpse of the interiors and grounds in Lily Allen's music video for The Fear, which was filmed there in 2008:

Thanks for sharing. I love gardens, and will have to put this in my future file.

I'm a huge fan of English gardens and "stately homes". I spend several weeks in the UK every spring and look forward to seeing homes and gardens most of all. Many thanks for bringing this one to our attention.
