Would you recommend ibis Strasbourg Centre Halles?
 

Will be in Strasbourg for 2 nights Sun-Tues and would like to stay close to attractions and train station at a reasonable price(under 100 per night). Is this Ibis our best choice or do you have other recommendations?

I stayed in the ETPA hotel smack opposite the train station - ETAP is Ibis Lite - both owned by Accor Hotels (www.accorhotels.com) - ETAP is similar but a tad less whatever - rooms are modern, clean, en-suite (WC and douche in room) and great location for train travel and cheaper. I love Ibis too and i suppose the great location on the Ibis you mention is nicer than the workaday huge square surrounding the train station.

I have stayed there and it is fine. It is right on top of the Les Halles shopping mall. I have also stayed in the Etap at the train station and got a room that I did not like at all (it had only a skylight and not a window, but that was just a quirk for maybe two or three rooms out of 70). Frankly, I <b>really</b> liked the Ibis at the train station, with a magnificent view of the train station in its glass bubble (DEMAND a room facing the front!). The walk to the center of town is a bit longer (but you can also take the tram), but Strasbourg is quite compact and walkable.

I stayed in the center and took the tram to the train station . It is several stops..or as PP said a long walk . The train station is NOT next to the attraction.

When I was in Strasbourg it was extremely hot.. walking inside that glass bubble was like being in hell.

I have not stayed at that particular location but have stayed at the Ibis Gare. If you've stayed in one Ibis, you've pretty much stayed in them all (not necessarily a bad thing...you know what you're getting)

Though not in the thick of attractions, the Ibis Gare is only a 10 minute tram ride to the Grand'rue stop which basically lets you turn one way towards place Gutenburg and the Cathedral or towards Petite France in the other. The rooms are practical, clean and have windows--each time I've had a view of the beautiful Place and modern train station facade (with the historical one behind it). We have arrived before 12 noon check in and they've accommodated us with a room right away, though that can't be guaranteed, of course. If you have an early am train departure it is extremely handy! Long term Parking, if you have a car, is just down the street: Parking Aurélie, and much easier to get to than Parking Gutenburg, for example.

I stayed at the IBIS directly across from the train station. It's been about 5 years ago, but I remember it as being a good room.
