We will be driving from Lucca and be in two cars. Thought we could drive to Vernazza, but upon reading the message board, have concerns about the narrow, scary road! Any advice would be appreciated. If we left the cars somewhere, best place? We will need them after Cinque Terre to drive to Milan to catch our flight home. Sasi

Park in Monterosso--Vernazza is a bear.

You know trains run from Lucca to Vernazza and back to Milan. Are you sure you need the cars?

To drive to either Vernazza or Monterosso you need to get off the autostrada at Brugnato and go through Borghetto and then through wiggly mountain roads. Myself I would get off a Carrodano-Levanto and go to Levanto, which is the first town outside 5T on the Genoa side, park there and take a train of boat into Vernazza.

Thanks for the help everyone. We prefer to have our cars because after Cinque Terre we plan on driving to Portofina, etc. We will have a day to spend before we spend the night in Milan. Is there a place to park in Levanto? Sasi

There is a parking lot above Rio Maggiore, where the road ends, its a bit of a walk down to town and I don't know if you have to pay for it or if its residents only. I would myself park in La Spezia or Levanto and train in.

Just letting you know, Giuliano Basso got slammed in a couple of reviews on slowtrav.com -- http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/vr/list.asp?r=Liguria.
The main reason is that he failed to honor reservations and stiffed the people when they showed up. I happened to see the reviews when I was hunting for places in CT.

Maybe those were odd cases, and I never heard any complaints about the rooms themselves, so let's hope it works out for you. But I thought you'd want to know.

I read the bad reviews of Guiliano, but decided that maybe this was a one time incident. There were many wonderful comments, too! Look to the positive, that's my motto! Sasi

From what I read it is important to make the phone call reconfirming--those who did that did not seem to have a problem. When will you be there?

Hi Bat,

We will be there October 29,30 and 31 and Guiliano did ask us to confirm with him 2 days prior to arrival, so he could meet us, etc. Are you planning on being there in October?
