Would you drive the southern border of Lake Geneva?

Our plans are to fly into Zurich, spend 2 nights, pick up a car, drive to Murten for a night, drive to Montreau for 1 night & then from Montreau to Lyon, driving along the southern border of Lake Geneva. Is this a doable route? Worth the drive? Or should we have the car 2 days, drop in Montreau and take a train to Lyon then rent a car in France for our 10 days in Provence to avoid the drive and drop off chanrges? I am confused at this point. Help?! We already have hotels rooms in these towns. Thank you!

For our recent visit to Provence, we flew into Geneva, rented the car there and returned it there too. We had Swiss plates but I believe you can rent the car on the French side.

We visited Chamonix and Annecy and, if you do drive the south shore of Lake Geneva, be sure to see Yvoire. The drive through the French Alps was beautiful.

Oh that is good news! We wondered if it would be worth the drive. We are going in October so I was concerned about weather. We will have a heavy drop off fee to rent in Zurich & return in Avignon but what the heck, it it almost as must to take the train for a week of stopovers. Driving you can see so much more. Any Provence hints? We are staying 4 days at Crillon de Brave & 4 days in St. Remy.

>> Any Provence hints? <<

Our favorite villages: Venasque (where we stayed for 6 nights), Joucas, Lacoste, Saignon, Seguret, Le Crestet and Brantes.

Les Baux (especially the citadelle) was a highlight (amongst many). I'll add Pont du Gard too. We went out of our way to see the fabulous new viaduct at Millau.
