Would this be a good base for Alsace?

We will be in the Alsace area from Oct 7th for 4 nights dropping car off in Strasbourg and taking TGV to Paris.
I'm trying to find an upscale property to celebrate a birthday.
Has anyone stayed at Chateau d'Isenbourg in Rouffach (outside of Colmar) Would this be an okay location to visit the wine road small villages etc? My husband doesn't mind driving and we do not need to see every village in the area. I've taken note of the ones that were recommend here.
Thanks again for any input.
also if anyone has stayed at a place like this could you recommend it?

I would try to find something a bit more to the north. The Wine Route goes from Obernai to Thann, but the most popular towns, such as Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg, are located north of Colmar.

I agree with Myriam about the location, although the hotel looks pretty swanky.

Last year, we stayed in Kaysersberg and loved being able to stroll around town and visit restaurants, winstubs and cafes without having to hop in the car.

Any suggestions of hotels in those towns that might fit whaat I am looking for? How about the town of Selestat?

Hi dac,

It's not as swank as the Chateau, but http://schwendi.pagesperso-orange.fr/ is a very nice hotel in Kientzheim, very close to Kaisersberg and Riquewhir.

It is also close to a 1* resto - http://www.le-maximilien.com/, which will more than compensate.

You might also want to stay in or near Illhaeusern
so that you can visit http://www.auberge-de-l-ill.com/V2/index.html - a 3* resto. Check www.tripadvisor.com for the Hotel des Berges.

Enjoy your visit.

We really like the village of Turckheim, just 7 km outside of Colmar, at Hostellerie des Deux-Clefs, and if the weather hasn't changed too soon the geraniums would still be in bloom. The hotel is old-world charm, so if you're expecting crisp, modern surroundings, this is not the place for you. But we just loved it.
