Would taking my Ipod Touch to Paris be enough?

I will be going to Paris in April for the 1st time. I would like to avoid taking my laptop along because of the extra weight. My hotel will have WiFi. I will be staying at the Pullman Eiffel Tower in the 7th. Does anyone just travel with their Ipod touch to Paris. I plan on using it for Skype and I have lots of apps loaded on it for my trip. Is this a good idea? Any feedback would be great!

I took my Touch along, solo, on a two day trip to Paris and did just fine. I didn't use it much though - I spent a lot of time running around.

Had no problems just using my iPod Touch when in Europe in 2009. Actually purchased tickets to the Australian Open Tennis on it with no problems....all via free WiFi.

I take my Ipod Touch with me to Paris, and it works just fine for catching up with email and brief responses.

No. You should have one change of underwear and a bar of soap.

lorilovestravel,

I stayed at that hotel a couple of years ago when it was still Hilton... at the time wired internet was 20 euros... a day! Ouch. Luckily we were only paying $140 a night for the room so it wasn't quite so bad. Now it's a Pullman prices may have changed. If I recall correctly there was only wired access in 2008.

Be sure you have a WiFi finding app on your iPod so you can find a free connection where ever you go.

The only reason I'd bring a laptop would be for storing/backing up photos - but for the last few years with memory cards being so cheap, I just bring a bunch with me so when one gets filled up I move on to the next. Everything else travel-related is totally easy to handle on my phone - and I love not lugging a heavy guidebook around! (I just purchase the pdf instead.)

This is a great idea. Could anyone please provide a link for an app that locates free wifi in France? (I've often noticed plenty of signs about free wifi in different cafes etc but it would be good not to have to wander around...)

LOL ira!! I just did my shopping for my trip, voltage converters and adaptors, passport and CC thing to hang around my neck, luggage scale, it will be hard to keep it within weight limit! and other things I needed. I bought 3 SD cards for my camera. I know I have 3 weeks yet, but I will be working tons of overtime on my job and extra time will be hard to find for the last minute things I need. Okay thanks everyone, I will forgo the laptop and just rely on the touch. I love that thing and I did see a few apps for finding free WiFi. I already have a Paris map app, a market and shopping app. It is free at the hotel

Have a look in the app store for JiWire for locating Wifi hotspots. See also http://www/wificafespots.com

Other handy apps for Paris are :

RATP Lite
MetrO
Zuti
Paris-ci la Sortie
Google Earth
Trip Advisor

and download a free flashlight app for those
dark Parisian hotel stairwells and hallways!

How was your stay at the Pullman Eiffel? That's one of two hotels that I'm looking at for a trip in November; the other is Crowne Plaza Republique near Canal St Martin. Thanks!
