Would Collioure be an acceptable base for seeing a few Cathar castles?

Cathinjoetown, I may take the train up anyway - wander around, and walk back down again!

It stops near the top for photo "ops", then stays at that travels south at that level for awhile before descending to Port Vendres where it also stops. PV is a working port, lots of port-side restaurants. The return from PV to Collioure along the coast road (corniche) is gorgeous
