WOULD A TRIP TO THE DUBROVNIK RIVIERA BE A GOOD ONE????
 

Years ago, everyone said the trips to Yugoslavia were beautiful and wonderful, then came the war and the end of that. HOWEVER NOW Saga travel is offering a l7 night trip to the Dubrovnik Riviera at Cavtat, Croatia and it sounds beautiful and interesting. Does anyone have any first hand info on such a place? I would be very interested AND SOON as I lhave to make my winter plans. Any help would be ;most APPRECIATED./ THANK YOU.

We looked over that trip in their brochure, but decided on seeing Spain again this year, with Saga. But, a good site for Croatia tourist information is www.htz.hr/. Hope this is of some help?

Dubrovnik is definitely the nicest city in Croatia to visit. Though there is a YU-NATO war in the neighbourhood going on, I don't think there is any reason to be afraid in Croatia. Kornati islands trip is a must! It's a beautiful national park.

Dubrovnik is definitely a must-see. I was there 6 month after the end of the war, you could (almost) not tell what had happen. I think the only thing is that the roofs use to be very oldish, and now they are just plain provencal roofs, but it doesn't change the view, it's still great. <BR>Also plan a boat trip from split to dubrovnik, and spend a few days in one of the three islands -havar is one, I odon't remember the othes. It's really wonderfull. <BR>The northern shores are also great, but more touristy -that's what I was told. <BR>Also stop by the park which is half the way between zagreb and dubrovnik : I can't remember the name, but it is really fantastic, a walking tour for an entire day arroudn lakes, waterfalls, in a wonderfull landscape. Croatia is great! At the moment it is safe to go to. You can get there easily by taking a night train to Zagreb and then to Split. Boats also ply the waters from Italy. The title of this post was a bit confusing until I saw how old it was. Cavtat is a small place just a few miles south of Dubrovnik. I had never heard it called the &quot;Riviera&quot;. Cavtat was lovely last September, and one could either take a bus into Dubrovnik or, better, a launch that runs every few hours from the quai in Cavtat to the old harbor of Dubrovnik -- a lovely way to approach the city.

The area most commonly refered to as the &quot;Riviera&quot; is the Makarska Riviera, which is on the coast south of Dubrovnik. It runs or about 60 km, between the towns of Brela and Gradac. We took the bus down that stretch, stopping at whatever town looked neat (all of them) and found Sobes at which to stay with no problems.

Makarska is north of Dubrovnik, on the way north towards Split.

hype which will attract more folks as
Croatia has been doing a major PR
blitz which is finally paying off for them.

However, since the country is still
so affordable I seriously doubt major
interest from high-rollers.

Of COURSE! Dubrovnik is South of Split. How soon we forget -- To set the record straight, Cavtat is South of Dubrovnik, while the Makarska Riviara is North of Dubrovnik between there and Split.

I took a cruise along the Croatian coastline about this time last year. The weather was delightful, although there was some rain. Korcula was probably my favorite, although Pula was beautiful. Dubrovnik was so crowded I didn't really get as good a look as I wanted. The ruins outside Split were well worth seeing, but the town itself was very depressing.

Made one stop in Kotor, Montenego. A charming little town; I walked through the old city several times and think I saw every street.

The cruise ship was also Croatian. The crew/staff as well as the shopkeepers in the towns were very friendly.

I would go back anytime.
