World Wide Travel Insurance for Schengen Visa
 

Hi! I'm just curious to know I really need to have a World Wide Travel Insurance coverage to apply for a Schengen Visa?

Who told you you had to have this?

I'm not an expert but tourist visas are not linked to any insurance as far as I'm aware.

Of course, if you need emergency health care while in a foreign country and don't have insurance then you might be looking at huge bills to pay.

Proof of travel insurance is sometimes a requirement for a visa application, no idea if it's needed for Schengen but since there are many dependencies and variations in visa rules it would be best to check.

mjdh1957, I checked the French Embassy website for Jeddah and it includes that as one of the requirements. I want to know if it is a case-to-case basis thing or if it is compulsory for us to have such an insurance.

Requirements can be different based on the country you are from and type of visa. Proof of insurance is required by some so you will have to check for your country. Many people posting responses here are from the US and don't need to apply as they can stay in Schengen for 90 days without a visa.

As noted, many here are americans and we don;t need Schengen visas. Since you do need one obviuosly your rules are completely different. If you're not sure call the embassy and ask - won;t you have to deal with them to get the visa any way?

If it says you need it, you should get it. The Czech Republic has on their website that any person entering the country must have health insurance, also, although they don't usually check for tourists from many countries (including the US). But they can if they want, and deny you entry. And for them, it isn't even an issue of visa but just any visitor to the country.

Yes, countries can and do require this for some visas, they don't want you to be a burden on their health system.

I agree with Odin, if it's the French consulate then that sounds like a requirement.

Most people who say they 'hear things' are referring to friends or friends of friends who tell them tall stories about travel that are not usually true.
