World War I sites in France

I know there are tons of WW2 sites in France but would like to understand what the really good places are to see WW1 sites - Its much harder to find stuff on the web about them. Thanks

Verdun is the most obvious site to visit.

You could try Ypres in Belgium. The first big battle of the war. Check out "http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dccfarr/" for more information.

We're planning to visit WWI sites in France next year to see where my grandfather (Argonne Forest) and some of my husband's relatives (Chateau Thierry) served. I understand the road between Bar le Duc and Verdun is called the "Voie Sacree," and that there are various war-related sites along the way. Try a Google search of that phrase, and you should find some info.

Michael's correct, Verdun should not be missed (I visited on a previous trip and plan to return). It helps to have a car.

The Belleau Wood is near Epernay. We visited about 12 years ago. Very small/nice US Cemetary. Can also visit what remains of the trenches etc.
