World Trip

My husband and I are planning a 6 month world trip starting Feb of '99. We will be going to Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, India, South Africa (?), Egypt, Europe, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Iceland and back home to Alberta, Canada.

Has anyone done an extended trip before and if so, do you have any tips (what to see, what to pack, what you packed but didn't use, what to beware of, etc)??? Thanks.

Nic, having travelled to Europe from Australia in the last couple of months, I am in awe of your planned world trip. It is something that I would love to do in the future. Can you tell me how you have planned your itinerary? is it planned with the seasons of each particular country in mind? Also, are you planning organised tours, ie with touring companies?
Perhaps some of this info may draw more input from others on this forum as well.

Nic,

I, too, am from Alberta but have lived in Hong Kong for many years. Although I cannot profess to know much about the rest of the world. I would caution you to be very careful of your personal belongings when in Hong Kong. Weatherwise, the place is very warm compared to Alberta. Depending on what time of year you're going, it could go from fairly comfortable to unbearable. If you would like more info, please feel free to email me. I'd be happy to provide you with more details.

Marcie,
I'm afraid we haven't put much planning into our trip. We decided to head out west first (Australia) and it just so happens that it will be spring/summer when we hit there. I guess we are just hoping to hit the other places at the right time.

We aren't planning to take any organized tours but just kinda wing it and have a good time (still trying to see all the important sights). We did Europe a few years ago while on motorbike and we just looked at the map and decided each day where to go. It worked out great and we had an awesome time.

Sounds fantastic, Nic! If you are heading to Australia first, February is actually late summer, March is Autumn. I have lived all over Australia, currently on the western coast. If I can be of any help in planning your trip down under, please email me direct. Best wishes.
