World Cup rowing at Lake Bled
 

When we are in Ljubljana in early May we want to do at least one day trip by public transportation, to either Lake Bled or to the caves (+winery?) I noticed that a World Cup rowing event will be on Lake Bled at the time. Would this make it a good time or a bad time to visit? Will it be too crowded at the restaurants, etc.? Will transportation be more challenging or easier (e.g. will there be a special bus from LJU to Bled because of the event?) ,,,,or should we avoid that area and head to the caves?

There is an excellent tourist information centre in Ljubljana that will be able to help you. We did a day tour through them to Lake Bled. My guess it will be crowded as it was when we went and there were no races.
It's quite a large area though.

at someone else's suggestion, I will ask this question again. We would hop a bus to Lake Bled and try to enjoy the region. Will this work, or will all restaurants and tourist sights at Lake Bled be swamped?

(We wouldn't mind bumping into the Canadian rowing team...have to say!)

I know what you think with swamped. Slovenia is not France or Italy, really swamped with tourist so much, that you can't move around. Bled is major attraction In Slovenia and will be busy, but nothing like other places in Europe. I will avoid weekends if I could, weekdays are fine and there you also have Lake Bohinj 30 min. down the road.

@aleksander, I understand what you mean...I have been in Florence, struggling against the crowds as we all tried to walk across the bridge. I certainly don't expect crowds like that in Lake Bled, however I'm going to guess that their tourist infrastructure isn't designed to handle huge crowds.

...but you raise a good point. What is the worst that happens? We get caught up in an exciting World Cup rowing event? Who knows? We could go to the caves instead. Either way I'm sure we will enjoy ourselves.
