World cup Munich July 5?
 

I am asking ,for a Canadian friend who somehow latched on to tickets , for himself and his two twentysomething sons.
He is getting into Frankfurt about a week before.
And has a van and will tour a bit with his kids.

Can anyone give me a place outside Munich
Easy access
Where the son's would have a good time.
And they can take a train, or bus, to the game?

There are many quite boring suburbs around Munich. (worst imho are Ismaning and Neuperlach) Augsburg is a little too far, Tölz don't has easy access but is great for kids. Starnberg would be interesting but rather expensive... What is he looking for?

And a fun place for 2 mid twenty guys, off game.

From the north there aren't that many "interesting places". If fun is beer and authentic life, than Straubing or Landshut and even Regensburg are places for you, however the south has the better attractions for kids plus mountains, fun parks etc. Straubing is as cheap (inexpensive) as it gets and GREAT, however, no nightlife not much other entertainment, and maybe just a little too far. But this IS Bavaria at it's best.

You might also be interested in the Altmühltal, one hour driving beautiful landscape, cheap and no tourists at all. Most people understand English, however. Look for Eichstätt, Beilngries. Clean, great rooms for 30€. Nice dinosaur museum plus kids con dig for themselves, all you need is a hammer, great beer at Weltenburg, boat rides on the river. Endless amounts of butterflies there in summer.

Prien at the Chiemsee (lake).

There are many places to see around Prien. At Stock, 4km (25 min.walk or short ride on old steam train)are beaches, rental boats, tour boats to the Herrenchiemsee palace of King Ludwig From Prien mountains are accessible by gondola by car (Kampenwand, mountains along the Achental, soaring (glider flights) in Unterwwoessen Day trips to Saklzburg (1 hr. by train), Berchtesgaden (2 hrs by car),etc.

There are frequent trains to Munich (check www.bahn.de). With Bayernkarte the three of them can travel to Munich on one EUR 23 ticket, about 56 min. from Prien. The Bayernkarte is limited to travel to commence after 9AM and to be completed at 3AM the following morning. No EC, Ic or ICE trains, but all Regio-type trains are valid on the ticket.

Thanks for the responses. They managed to get a room in western Munich - The Econtel in Pasing, for July 4 and 5. The rest of the city is booked solid, or ridiculously expensive. The Econtel was reasonable at 140 euros, easy access, and 15 minutes into town by train. I was surprised they got it, but I guess it's a long way from the airport and not very attractive for people flying in for the July 5 match. But in their case, it looks perfect.

If you take a look at www.hotwire.com, they have a 3 star in the City Centre for US$115 per night for your selected dates, although with hotwire you don't know the hotel, unless they've listed it on www.betterbidding.com

I got the wrong date for the semi, I added the additional day and it goes up dramatically, stick with what you've got!

If you need infos on Pasing, just ask it's my hometown :-)

It's not in Pasing but in Aubing, close to Neuaubing Station, havy traffic on Bodenseestr, most of the day. Try to avoid 1st floor if possible, but since it's rather new, the windows should be well isolated. Big hardware store across the street. (Stinnes)
