World Cup Aussies
We are four Aussies traveling to Europe during the world cup. We wont be in Germany but hope to soak up some of the WC fever in England and France.
Can anyone suggest a good bar in London and Paris to watch the football. WE are staying in Earls court in london and will be there for the semis. We will be in Paris for the final and staying in the 15th close to the expo centre. |
That would be right a Kiwi claiming to be an Aussie, just cause your mob didn't make it !! ;)
Mate in Paris and London during World Cup it will not matter where you go it will be big !! Just look for the crowd and a little green and gold ( just make sure its not Brazil!!) |
Around Earls Court it would be very hard NOT to find a pub full of Ozzies watching the football.
At times it seems as if the whole under 30 population of Oz is there |
I guess that's fair - we claimed "Crowded House" for ourselves. C'mon the Aussies - Oi! Oi! Oi! ((B)):-!

You guys did well against Holland this week! Well, you do have a Dutch coach of course. If you dare, you can always go and watch the games in Dutch cafe De Hems.
|
That is Cafe De Hems in London. Wear orange to blend in.

It's far too soon to suggest anywhere in London.
The best place will be anywhere that the teams making it to the semi finals will call home. Since Australia's highly unlikely to make it that far (and England's not much likelier), the most fun will be at a Dutch, Brazilian or whatever pub. Or, if one of our traditional enemies (Argentina, Germany, France and Australia) makes it that far and England doesn't, practically any pub will be full of people rooting for the Frogs or Ozzies to be soundly thrashed. Time Out and the Evening Standard will have lots of advice nearer the day on where to watch football with the Italians etc. Or come back to this board just before the matches. |
Aussies interested in football? Whatever next?
If you are in the Earls Ct Area you may want to think about using the Walkabout chain of pubs – there’s a huge one in Shepherds Bush that is popular with Aussies, and other wrong’uns, when the sport’s on. There’s a smaller version in Wimbledon (short hop on the District Line). Other than that there’s any number of big beery pubs in Fulham Broadway that would fit your bill. p.s You will be beaten like ginger step children. “Socceroos” indeed. |
