Working farm vacation in France
 

I am interested in a vacation on a working farm in France. Can someone help me?

hmmm.. are you interested in working or just laying about? If the former, there is an internatl organization (WWOOF) of volunteers to work on organic farms in various countries, France being one of them. Well, ok, there are a few actually down in Provence, how about a working vineyard? I do know one of those.

There are oodles of farms in France that offer rooms (chambres d'hote) and often meals (tables d'hote), if that is what you are looking for. Such a place is most often referred to as a "ferme auberge." If you type in that term on any search engine you will get lots of responses. Many of the sites are available in English as well as French, but if you need help with the French let me know.

The working vineyard I was thinking of is Chateau Unang in Provence near Mont Ventoux. That is a fairly well-known winery but they also have about 5-6 rooms in the chateau they let out. I almost stayed there last summer because it looked nice and quiet and it was fairly near where I was touring, but I decided to stay elsewhere because I was alone and thought it might be too isolated (unlike some B&Bs, they do not have a restaurant so you have to go out to dinner and it's town is not large). It's near Malemort-du-Comtat, and here is the URL: www.chateauxhotels.com/unang<BR>It used to be in Karen Brown's guide and it said something about lovely but somewhat shabby/faded, nice staff but they are more into running the vineyard than being hotelkeepers--sounded fine to me, it's not Relais & Chateaux level but the prices are much lower, also. They removed it from Karen Brown's website because they wouldn't pay them a fee (they charge to be on their website), not due to quality, but it is in the print version. I think it's in Gault-Millau, also. There are a few of these places they are B&Bs and vineyards, there's a wellknown expensive one up in the Gigondas area which I'll try to recall, but can't now. We stayed at a goat farm in Provence but you don't work. They accept dinner reservations from others who were not sleeping there. You'll have a longer wait returning at the airport I suspect , these days, if you stay at a farm. Sorry for my awkward sentence.
