Wookie Hole ?
Opinions on Wookie Hole - Tourist Trap or worth a visit? Their web site looks like it might be kind of interesting.

Elaborate please????

The only Wooky Hole I've ever heard of is some natural caves in the Cheddar region in England. Great for cave men or cheese storage. It's certainly not a major attracton to plan your day around. Hey, Melanie, how about posting the web site address?

http://www.wookeyhole.com/

Sorry about the misspelling.

There are caves, museums, and a penny arcade (antique). Just wanted feedback from someone who had been there, whether it was worth the time and effort.

Wookey Hole is not worth a special trip or detour. But nearby Cheddar Gorge is beautiful and Wells and Glastonbury are not far. So if you are in the area for a whole day or more, Wookey Hole is a fun diversion - but not a special trip.

OMG- I thought I had wandered into a Star Wars site~ LOL :) You mean you can visit Chewbacca????

Melanie,

I did not find it worth the detour---my niece wanted to go and we conceded to her request.

If you are traveling with young children (under age of 8 or so), then it would be a good diversion. I found the whole experience very contrived, and rather cheesy---overpriced as well.
If they sell a t-shirt there that says, "I saw the Wookey Hole", then I'd say it is definitely worth the trip there to get one.

I remember going to Wookie Hole as a child and thoroughly enjoying it - my whole family did. Perhaps it was the silly name or the humorous guide but it really tickled us. Now, I don't know if I'd go out of my way, but if I was in the area, it is fun.

My home town (Yeovil) isn't far from Wookey Hole in Somerset England. Both Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge are tourist traps but if you are in the area (like Bath) then they are both worth visiting.
Personally I would recommend the adventure caving (for beginners) tour at Cheddar Gorge. You spend an hour or so deep in the caves with a guide - squeezing through narrow muddy gaps with only a torch on your helmet to light your way. Honesty it's more fun than it sounds:) More interesting than just wandering through the showcaves. http://www.bath.co.uk/cheddarshowcaves/ Personally my favourite caves was the Luray Caves in Virgina |
