Just returned from a weekend in New Hampshire and Main for a wedding and family GTG.
3 weeks in September going to Berlin, Poland, Romania, stopover in Budapest and Salzberg and a day in Munich for Octoberfest.
Kavey, I definitly cannot fit into your suitcase, but if you take one of old steamer trunks, I might be able to fit in that. Have great trips all.
Cheers
Art

Yipee, kayaa, cowboy (Okie for Woo Hoo). Will be leaving next week on the QE2 for a 6 and 1/2 week journey to London, France (Paris, the Loire valley, Normandy, Brittany, Burgandy, French Alps, Alsace), the Rhine River, and Belguim.

Have spent many, many hours on this forum for information to help plan this trip and my heartfelt thanks to all who post here! I will be traveling with my mother and brother. All arrangements. re hotels, were made via the internet (a first for me). One of the things I benefited the most from were the food selections people posted and on places to eat. Geez, I weigh too much now, can't imagine what the scales are going to scream at me on my return.

This trip started out as 3 and 1/2 weeks and by the time my brother and I got through with all the places "we just have to see" it grew into this monster trip from heaven! I will return to the states with only 5 days left before school starts!! (We start early in Oklahoma.)

Dr. Betty -- I have done the trip through Catarac Canyon and it is fabulous. My older brother, also a teacher, used to run rivers in the summer and I enjoyed many of them including a wondrous trip of 16 days through the Grand Canyon.

Kavey, thanks for such a uplifting post!

Best Regards, Alice (who is trying to figure out just how to bring back 500 pounds of chocolates, assorted cheeses and beers, and dozens of bottles of wine!!!)

We're going to the Women's FINAL Ice Skating and the Closing Ceremonies (and other events as well)! A dream of mine for many years!!

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!
Patti

Since I consider this forum home as opposed to the Asia page I'll post this here.

I just returned from a long weekend in Hong Kong. It was a last minute trip (everything sort of fell into place for me to take advantage of a great opportunity) and I'm hugely jetlagged right now but wanted to catch up on my Travel Talk & saw this posting.

My planned travels will take me to the Amalfi Coast & Rome for my honeymoon in early November, but would like everyone to know what a great city Hong Kong is. As a former British provence, the English language is well known in this exotic destination, and there are also plenty of great pubs in which to grab a pint.

We stayed at the Shangri La Kowloon and the location was great. We walked or ferried to almost all major sites, and for more distant sites cabfare was a real bargain (no extra charge for multiple passengers).

If any of you Europhiles are considering a trip to Hong Kong, it has my enthusiastic endorsement. I'll gladly share my limited knowledge (I only had 15 hours to prepare for this trip & most was spent doing laundry & looking for cat-sitters) of this great city.

j.

Nano,
I will be waving to every plane I "see" on the way over( and cause terminal embarrassment to my children!)
And think of you every day .
You ,also, Patti, since we three share the exact same travel dates!
Dr. Betty,
Enjoy the Moab.
My husband spent a week there last month, teaching for the Park Service.
He really felt it to be a mystical and spiritual place.
And he is not that kind of guy, so the impact of it must have been really big!
Everyone have fun!

I see I am not the only one who can hardly contain my excitement about forthcoming holidays, its great to hear where and when you are all off to some far flung shore...

Thanks so much for sharing my woo hoo-ing...

I certainly will share my trip report when I get back but of course I will post it on the Africa forum... though I will no doubt not manage not to mention it (if that isnt too many negatives) when I get back into the Europe forum when I return...

For all the well wishers, and to slightly envious Thyra, THANKYOU!!!

I will still be here on Fodors right up to dept date as I suspect I will log on from work at lunch time on Friday!!!

My boss has agreed to me working a couple extra hours in the week so I can leave at 3 on Friday without using any leave and go straight from work to airport and meet Pete there...

Oh Woooo Hooooo Hooooooo!

PS Sorry I cant take _any_ of you in my suitcase (and how would I choose?)!!

We have a weight limit of 10kg per person including the camera equipemt, and my SLR bag with spare zoom lens and lots and lots of film probably weighs a good proportion of that...

Not quite as bad as it sounds (I did panic at the thought of over 2 weeks on not very much luggage as there are a lot of temperature variations and just all the medications etc take up signicant space) but then they said that all of the camps offer free laundry to guests so we stopped panicking...

HAPPY TRAVELS...

PS Dont take this the wrong way, but I LOVE you all...

Booo Hoooo - my trip to France has come and gone (already!). We spent 9 days - 2 in Lyon, 2 in Annency, 2 in Burgundy, and 3 in Paris. It was wonderful, the weather perfect, we had a blast. Looking at Quebec City in August (closest thing to Paris in North America or so I'm told), and Disney World in September. Next year - Italy!!!

Kavey: What a wonderful adventure!

We went to Paris and Provence in late April and early May and loved it (except the unusual torrents of rain).

May go to Hawaii in July and to Washington, D.C. in October. I told my husband he may have to visit the whitehouse alone (I preferred the previous tenant). He says I'm crazy.

Back to Italy (our favorite) next year.

Hope you all have wonderful trips and experiences!!

P.S. May meet you in San Francisco. We are on the other side of the Bay. Have been reading the thread about the get together and will keep doing so.
