Wondering about all the cancelled flights on Alitalia

Hi there- I noticed on the website that they cancelled what looks like all of their flights (but may not be) for May 3, 4th. I'm taking a flight with Alitalia from Venice to Athens, connecting through Rome on May 20th.

That same flight is one of the ones cancelled on May 3rd &4th. Just wondering if anyone has information on this & if this happens a lot. I know Alitalia has a bit of a "reputation" (I heard). Are they doing anything to compensate for those cancelled flights? I just want to be prepared in advance if something happens to our flights.

I'm trying to find out what the penalty would be for changing/cancelling with ALitalia. I'm thinking about just booking one instead with Alpi Eagles, which I just now heard about.

Our flight from Venice, through rome gets into Athens at 17:05 (or is supposed to) & we have a flight on Aegean leaving at 19:00 to Santorini. We REALLY don't want to miss this flight as I'm pretty sure there will be no compensation for us.

If they are somewhere around 2 hours late, even though our next flight is with Aegean on a seperate ticket would they still compensate in some way because of it being so dleayed?

Do I need to worry about my flight on the 20th?

It's Italy, you won't know until the very last second.

We were in line to process our VAT credit about 18 months ago at the Rome airport, when all of the processors went on strike.

By law unions can call strikes with 10 days notice. We just have to keep checking that's all.

Since your second flight is on a seperate ticket compensation is probably not forthcoming. Your best bet will be to throw yourself on the mercy of the airline and hopefully they will put you on a later flight.
