Hi!
I was at the Vatican Museums in October 2005, and my previous email was based on my recent experience. Also, keep in mind that you won't be able to see everything in your limited timeframe, and you will ALWAYS feel as though you missed out on something!
Cheers,

I toured the Vatican Museum on a Friday in September a couple of years ago. My experience was no lines; I simply walked up and bought a ticket and started walking. I was strongly anticipating seeing the Sistine Chapel and it was one of the highlights of the trip to Italy. The rest of the museum is also very very good and, as many have said, it is huge. However, at least in my experience, on the day I went, there were no lines. Perhaps when you go there it will not be crowded. I still suggest, if this one in a lifetime trip, get up really early one morning and ride the train to Venice and walk around for an hour or two and then go back to Florence (assuming you do not have time for lingering). I think you will be happy if you can manage at least that brief a visit to Venice. Just my two cents, again.
