Women's business attire in Rome

I am going to be visiting a college in Rome later this month--my first visit to Italy on business--and I'm afraid that everything I have will be hopelessly dowdy, inappropriate, or both! Any advice? Should I stick with traditional business suits? Can I get away with softer, less structured knits? Can I wear pantsuits or should I stick to skirts?

Hi Linda<BR> Wear what you would wear if the meeting was in New York.

I agree with ira. Dress professionally and stylishly as you would in any big city. Doesn't have to be this years styles.Black tends to be a good choice. Pants will be fine. Personally, I don't think I'd do the less structured knits.

Check out the several threads about tourist's attire in Italy. Most of the people suggest a tourist's attire that is more fit for a businesswoman ^_^ In any case, I have worked with American lawyers (from Chicago) whose usual attire was perfect for Milano too.
