woman dining alone in Barcelona: where to eat?

I will be spending a few days in Barcelona on my own in early December. Anyone have suggestions for some nice restaurants?

Many people have a solo lunch at l'Aribau next to the university from 1450, my favourite lunch restaurant in Barcelona. Almost exclusively locals.

Loads of fine tapas bars around, but Cal Pep is something very special and quite expensive. Line up some 15 mins before opening to get a seat at the bar where all the goodies are prepared right in front of you. Fabulous fish and seafood, but everything here is top notch. http://www.calpep.com/Ingles/index_ing.html

Close by you'll find the excellent and affordable Basque pintxos bar Txakolin: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Catalonia.html

For some traditional Catalan Food, I can highly recommend intimate and Family owned Ca l'Estevet: http://www.restaurantestevet.com/EST...ienvenida.html

Call and book a seat at the counter at Pa Comer Algo, in the Eixample. The staff speaks very good English, and the food is very good. As at most tapas bar/restaurants, you can get the dishes in various sizes…tapas, half-raciones, raciones. They will explain this to you, and they have English menus. Open Sundays when many are closed.

Here is my report about eating in the city; I was with a female friend on this trip.

If you go to Cal Pep, you have to get there before they open and stand on line with many other tourists. I like the place, but be sure to choose your own dishes, do not agree to let them give you a sampling of their own choice, as they offer for non-Spanish speakers.

If you want to have a moderately priced but very high quality sit-down meal, I would recommend the intimate Hisop; again, the staff speaks impeccable English (true of most Barcelona restaruants, in my experience). Tasting menus; advance booking essential.
