Wolfsburg?
This will be my first visit to Germany, we will be attending a trade show in Hannover, but we will be staying in a town about an hour away called Wolfsburg.
Does anyone have any suggestions on any good places to go to eat or things close to Wolfsburg to see and do? |
Wolfsburg of course is famous for its sprawling headquarters and factory of VW vehicles. Not much on interest in it though it's pleasant enough as are all German towns i've been to. Nearby is the famous Harz mountains area - check out gems like Goslar and Wernigerode - quaint steam trains run from Wernigerode thru the Harz mountains. Berlin is actually a fairly short drive or train ride away.

If you're into cars there is VW's Autostadt theme park, where everything revolves around cars:

In my book, Wolfsburg is just a smidgen better than Dearborn, MI.
Actually, Hannover is quite nice for a day's visit. Goslar is worth a trip (about 100km, all autobahn and Schnellstrasse, but you have to navigate the city of Braunschweig.) Also about 100km from Wolfsburg, and 47km south of Hannover is Hameln. (remember the pied piper?). Really nice old city. But by car, from Wolsburg you have again pass through Braunschweig as well as Hannover. But if you leave from the trade-show (Messegebiet)in Hannover, it's not a bad drive. I believe there are also trains from W. to Goslar, and to Hameln via Hannover (http://bahn.de) |
Not to forget that Berlin is only one hour by train from Wolfsburg.
