Wiring Money to Croatia

I am visiting Croatia later this year and I need to send deposit money for some of the rooms I'm trying to reserve. How have you gone about sending a deposit in kunas? I called the Croatian Embassy in DC but they weren't much help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The place where we hope to stay in Dubrovnik needs a depost to hold the room.

I had to deal with this same issue last fall to reserve my apt. in Dubrovnik, as they wanted 100 euro deposit wired. My credit union does not do euro wire transfers and Western Union was not too cooperative either. I ended up getting a bank check in euros and went to the post office and sent it return receipt requested. They got it in about a week. You could also get a euro traveller's check from AAA send that. You might check and see if they will accept euros, which will certainly be easier to get than kunas.

Check out this web site. They claim that they will transfer and deposit into any bank. You wire them the dollars, and they'll do the rest.

Or you can contact one of the Ruesch International offices in the USA and wire through them, which is usually about a quarter what a bank will charge you, if a bank will even do it.

I was in the same situation when booking to stay in Croatia in 2005. I ended up using Western Union momey transfer. I was a bit concerned but decided that as the deposit was not a huge amount of money, I'd have to take the chance and it all worked perfectly OK.
