Winter weather travel wear

I'm looking to buy silk long johns for my entire family (we're leaving for London in 2 weeks for 3 months), two adults, 6 year-old & 2 year-old. I wanted to order some from wintersilks.com. Unfortunately they do not carry sizes small enough for my 2 year-old. Anyone know where I can get some silk long johns for my 2 year-old?

Hi samtraveler,

Try Target. I forget what they're called (underduds??), but Target sells soft, warm undergarments for much cheaper than wintersilks.

Sorry, don't know if they have them in toddler-small sizes. Hope so!

Hi, thanks. Are the ones at Target silk?

Alas, no. Some kind of breathable synthetic. I've worn them for a few years for Swiss winters and like them.

Cuddleduds! No, they are not silk, but very lightweight and very warm. Also much easier to care for than silk. They can be thrown in the wash with everything else. I love mine and have worn them for years.

try campmor.com

I know they have kid sizes, but don't know about a 2 y/o

JCPenney has silk thermals-- plenty sizes. Cuddleduds should do, though.

Try www.cabelas.com. Also not sure about toddler sizes, but they have a silk camisole in a camouflage print, so I guess anything is possible.

BTW, I just toss my silk long underwear from Cabelas (not camo!) in the washer and dryer. Have done it for years with the same set and it's holding up great.

For people who do this, how many pairs do you take? I'm thinking that you would need at least two pairs to allow for wash/dry time.

For the two-year-old, perhaps you could substitute tights. He/she won't be as concerned about bulk and fashion :).

I've already looked at campmor and calebas and they just don't have sizes to fit a 2 year-old. I'll look into cuddleduds--I guess these are only avialable in Target stores--tried looking online and no luck. I would still prefer silk since it works so well and because it's so light to pack. Thanks!

Bored today, so I found this possibility for you: children's log underwear of wool/silk. I have a wool/silk sweater that is incredibly soft, so this might work for you. Here's the link:

As for another poster's question about how many sets to take, well, I just take one. They're very, very thin and dry easily overnight. Besides, I wear other underwear under these underwear!

I meant "cabelas."

I've looked aroud online for cuddleduds, is that Cuddl Duds? Anyway I've looked at a lot of places carrying Cuddl Duds and even at cuddlduds.com they don't indicate that they sell any in toddlers sizes, so I'm guessing they don't make them for toddlers.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Worktowander, those are nice indeed, but at $66 for the set, I don't think that's an option for a 2 year-old--my own silk set only cost me $45! Thanks for looking for me!

Worktowander Jan 2nd, 2006 02:56 PM

Yeah, I wouldn't pay it either, but it's ahrd to know other people's checkbook limits!

Try this one: They're billed as PJs, but they look like long underwear sets to me.

All right, I'm done now.

Great! That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. You've done your good deed for the day--thanks!
