Winter Sun about 4 hours max from London?....any ideas? Thanks

Hi ......we're looking for some 'guaranteed' sunshine / heat / swimming / luxury within a maximum of 4 hours of London in November (not Egypt or anywhere in North Africa) ...is Paphos an option do you think ?....does anyone know what Southern Italy is really like in November .......many thanks

Not in the same league as red sea or morocco, but Canary Islands, Malta and Cyprus are worth a look.

I live on the French Med coast, and these places are warmer than home.

Not quite within 4 hours, but Eilat and/or Aqaba (though it can be absolutely perishingly cold in Petra if you overnight there)

I'd also seriously question your rejection of Egypt. The Sinai really is just about the furthest south, other than sub-Saharan Africa, you can get to and back entirely by daytime flights. There are some really excellent hotels in Sharm El Sheikh.

I don't think you'll get hot days anywhere in France or Italy in November. It could be sunny and nice but not swimming weather. We had a week in Nice a month later than you - in December - and it was sunny but still coat weather.

There are historical weather averages on the Trip Planner section of www.wunderground.com
Just key in your destination and the month of November and you'll get a good idea of what the weather could be like.

Malta could be good, we loved our trip there. There is a 5 star hotel in Valletta, just outside the city gates, called the Phoenicia. It would be well placed for transport as the bus hub is nearby.

Nowhere in Europe or the Med is going to be warm enough to swim, the only options within 4 hours of London are the Canaries and Madeira

Check the travel section of website for the Guardian, the British newspaper. They constantly identify the places you are looking for, in article after article, with hotel recs, flights, costs, etc.
