winter in Europe
 

Need some general advice. We have only traveled to UK and Italy and only in the spring.
Any tips on where to go in Nov or Dec. We are not skiers adn prefer to sight see, etc.

I recommend Paris, but I always recommend Paris.

And I'm like Ira, except I always recommend Rome. Temperatures are not bad, it may be a little rainy in November. The Christmas decorations are beautiful.

I always recommend Paris or Provence! I've been in both in Dec., Jan., and March, and it's not the same as in warm weather, but it can be a wonderful time. I have never had actually bad weather at these times.

One of my favorites ever has been visiting the Christmas markets in Germany between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are more than trinket markets - in the smaller towns they are almost like a small county fair. Great street food, many locals, and just a general air of "fun". One of the most notable markets in a large town is in Nuremburg. Much more commercial but you have the rest of the town to visit as well. My favoites in the smaller towns are Bad Wimpfen and Michelstadt. They are particularly good on the weekends. It's just a fun time to be in Germany. Do a search on "Christmas Markets" and you'll find some great sites.

May I put in a word for London from 1 to 22 December ? We have museums, galleries, and theatres all open and attractive. There is a pleasant buzz of shopping on Oxford Street and Regent Street. Suburban theatres mount pantomimes, delightful and simple-minded comedy for children. Seventeenth century churches give you one-hour free concerts of Christmas music and carols, with mulled wine and minced pies. From 23 December to 4 January London goes home and watches television: please do not come then. Paris from 26 December is far more lively.

NeedAdvice, mostly depends where you live right now and if you are used to cold, wet weather. I recommend Rome or Italy in General, especially the coastal aerea. Rome can be chill and rainy sometimes,but most of the time is very sunny , even in the coldest days.I love Paris, but I dont like the weather there during that time, is so gray,and is so damp especially after the rain, that you feel it in your bones. The weather in Provence is not bad during November or December , but when the Mistral ( the strong wind of the Sud) blow), watch out,is horrible, especially if you have sinus or allergies problems.
