Granted this is early - but Italy is a temperate climate - and in the north skiing is a major activity. It's not like Venice is tropical or anything.

Italy enjoys a temperate climate but winter is chilly : average daytime temperatures don't exceed 50 F in Rome and Florence and 40 in venice and Milan. If you want to sky not far from Venice Cortina d'Ampezzo is the best!
