Wines from Ribeira Sacra

One of the regular contributors is from this region. This article appears in today's NY Times about the wines of the region.

Yep read it.... added it to Twitter and FB. Loads of wine makers I know are pleased about this. One wine maker Bodeguero, who I met at a meeting yesterday did not even know they had been written about.
The article say they could only find 17 bottles to sample. I know a lot more export to the US. The writer must try harder. I find the prices way too high for my liking, but I suppose it is about mark up and taxes etc.

It must be RS wine week in the NYT!

But Ciabatta?

The second article accompanied the first on the same page of the newspaper. You cannot get Gallego bread in the US.

I read an article where the Spanish export much of their grapes to France and olive oil to Italy because they can make more money.

The Spanish must do more to inform the world of the quality of their grapes and olive oil.

I have heard of the olive oil facts before. Never purchase Italian Olive Oil!
Grapes did not know that.
It can be understandable as Spain produces a huge of amount of grapes. We cannot drink all the crap as Spain has some great wines. The worse table wine I had was in Madrid. I had to have some Gaseosa to make it drinkable.

The worst table wine we ever had was a pulpo festival in Santiago. It tasted like it was aged in old socks.

old pulpo!

Could have been. I was like drinking water from a fish tank dyed red.

At least it is being recognized.

Had a Dominio do Bibei Lalama 2010 the other day to a grilled and extremely tender T-bone steak after having read this, and it's definitely on the team for the future.

The local press are reporting that there is an article written by Dr Vino (John Gilman) in his website View from the cellar, has given the Ribeira Sacra wines another excellent write up. However this article is only by subscription.:-(
