Winery tours in French Riviera area
Does anyone know of, or have experience with, wineries in the Cote d'Azur area? I am interested in touring some wineries within an hour (2 hrs. max) of the Nice/Cannes/Cagnes sur Mer area.
Thanks for any help/suggestions/websites, etc. |
At 47 mi (1 hr 16) from Cannes, it may well be that the wineries of the Bormes region, just past La Mole are one of your leading choices.
See http://www.beyond.fr/map/winemap_bormes.html Best wishes, Rex |
Oh, my aching Alzheimers...
I thought I looked up stuff about PACA wineries before... http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1284917 |
I left a window open from earlier today, and it made me remember that wines of the Bandol appellatin are something that I learned a little bit about, on a trip in 99 - - and would still like to learn more about.
Here's a page with a lot of links (some non-functioning) - - http://www.travelenvoy.com/wine/provence2.htm - - of these, I think it would be fun to visit http://www.provenceweb.fr/83/galantin/ukindex.htm http://www.laidiere.com/ or http://www.saint-jean-baptiste.com (this last one has rooms to let, and lots of information on making quite a visit to the domaine and its region) |
The Bandol appellations are excellent; be sure to try some of the lovely rosés that are perfect during the warm-weather months. Bandol is also known for fine reds.

The best source book for this info is Fodor's Rivages "Wines and Vineyards of Character and Charm in France." It has maps, pictures, lots of info on each winery, and recommendations for hotels, restaurants and places of interest.
For a real interesting day, consider making an excursion to Porqerolles, one of the Iles d'Hyeres just off the coast west of the area you are interested in. It's a pleasant day trip by ferry (pack a picnic lunch) and has three wineries. |
