Winery -one-day by train/bus from Florence

Planning on an august visit to florence...staying near san marco...would like to take a day trip with my wife to a winery or two outside florence...

we are traveling in/out of florence via train so a one-day bus trip/train trip would be super...any suggestions

Adamdj, we had a tour of a small castle in Chianti where a bottle of excellent wine per person was included in the tour price. Now, the castle tour was dumb, led by a very disinterested young woman, but the wine was worth the price of the tour! Think of the tour as being a bonus!

Anyway of course I don't remember the name of the castle winery in Chianti. But I can recommend Roberto Bechi, a licensed tour guide and native of Siena. He will know the name of the castle winery. We booked a half-day private tour of the Chianti region with him and I asked him if there were any castles that would fit into our time-frame. That is how we ended up at the castle winery. He warned me that it wasn't the best castle, that's for sure, but it was the only one that would fit into our particular half-day plan. His web-site is www.toursbyroberto.com

Hop bus to Chianti en Greve (sp?), a Tuscan hill town near Florence and chose between several wineries to visit in that town - can buy a pass that lets you sample at several, and then, merrily hop the bus back to Florence.

That's Greve (the name of the village) in Chianti.

Walk, maybe not, but stagger yes, in this not-so-big town.

Hi adam.

If you would be happy with wine tasting, without having to tour the winery, check out http://www.assoenoteche.it/siena/home.htm
in Siena.
