Winery
Since Tuscany is wine country, it seems like it should be easy to find a winery to tour, but, I'm having a difficult time. I've looked in my guide books and most of the wineries listed are in Chianti. We will be staying a little South of that area in Pienza. I have searched and searched the Internet and the only thing I can find are Web sites that offer tours and they cost hundreds of dollars.
We want to just drive up ourselves and tour a winery. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would prefer one between Pienza and Siena, but we could arrange to drive past one on our drive from Pienza to LaSpezia. |
How about Castello Banfi? It's near Montalcino. They have a great tasting room & gift shop. You can make a reservation for lunch and a tour of their winery. They make some great wines.
I don't know of any places you can just drive up to and tour their winery (their cellars/vinyards) without a reservation. ((b)) |

Thanks Budman. I found their Web site with contact information among other things.

We went to Dievole, outside of Siena and loved it!

Dear Mod,
all of Italy is wine country, I defy anyone to find anywhere in this land of bacio di sole where they don't make a local wine. Not to knock Tuscan wines, but come to Piedmont for real wine country! And freindly wineries. |
