wineries, dairy farms, in tuscany
will be in the Tuscany area the end of september and am interested in going to a winery and dairy farm. Does anybody have a name of a winery they went too
that might let you participate in the harvesting and a dairy farm that will let us watch the making of cheese. also, can anybody recommend some of the really interesting small towns to visit? thanks in advance for your help. carol |
Where in Tuscany will you be? it's a big place. I know of one caseficio (cah se fee chee oh -- cheese maker) between Florence and Bologna, but that is probably not in the area where you will be. There is also one on the road that runs down the east side of Lago di Bolsena, just south of Val d'Orcia.

Pienza is a cheese-making center specializing in the cheese of ewe's/sheep (pecora, in Italian): Pecorino.
Here is one agriturismo which lets guests watch the process of cheese making: http://www.cretaiole.it/prodotti.en.php |
we rented a car so we are driving from rome up to forte dei marmi and planned on stopping at siena, monte oliveto maggiore,, montepulciano, pienza, volterra, pisa, lucca, and anywhere else someone might tell me to stop.
thanks for all your help |
