Assuming, that i buy some wine when visiting Italy and want to have it shipped home - is the postage horrible ? And how about taxes ? Thanks

I did this a few years ago and this is how the winery sent it to me. They Shipped 6 bottles at a time. They Used DHL The cost was approx. 45 euro for 2 cs of six bottles They Mark the lable on the box and shipping sheet Food in glass. I guess to avoid the duty . The winery also sold there own olive oil so I guess that is how they get arround the Duty . I got some Great Super Tuscans And Vin Santo .

Last trip to Italy I went to winery and had no problem getting wine shipped home It was shipped DHL and on the lable it was posted food in glass they shipped 6 bottles at a time I got 2 cs of red table wine( Super Tuscan) it cost about 4 dollars a bottle to send home its was worth it. You need to find out if it is legal to ship wine to your state.

Can the wine freeze? Can the wine get too hot?

Get yourself one of those carry-on bags with the rollers that fit into the overhead bin. With a little bubble wrap you can get 8-10 bottles of wine in them.

Then, find out the weight limit for carry-on bags with your airline to see if this is feasible.

Another option, most wineries/wine shops sell cushionned cartons so you can put the wine in with your checked luggage.

The duty on wine is cheap. If for some reason you get stopped going thru customs, it won't be worth the time and money for them to charge you any customs fees for a case of wine. ((b))

A common misconception is that Italian wines are sulfite free. Most of not all Italian wine intended for export is sulfite free. Unlike the US, Italy does not require sulfite warning on wine labels. Italian wine sold in the US must have the required labeling.
