Windmill House, Edinburgh
I found this hotel on Karen Brown and booked it because it sounded charming, and had rooms available when we will be there, during the festival. It does sound a bit far out -- Can anyone give me information
about the hotel or the location? The house is reached through the meandering main street of the old mill village of Coltbridge, then by private road leading to Windmill Brae. |
I've never heard of it. But the location is at the edge of a fairly upmarket suburb of Edinburgh. About 35 minutes walk from the west end of Princes' Street but close to bus routes.

This hotel looks lovely. It is a bit far to walk to Princes Street, but it would be perfect for rugby games...Sheila?

I did think exactly that.

I did email a few places but it's hard to get a room in central Edinburgh in August! Edinburgh is the only place we're going on our trip that we've been to before, so I think it's OK to be a bit further out, and it will be nice to have the quiet. (we are probably the fuddy-duddiest honeymooners in the world!)

I would bde delighted with this. It is not far out and buses are available - especially if you cross the water and get onto Corstophine Rd (which then changes name as you go into town). The Water of Leith which it overlooks is really pretty and if you are fit, you can take a really nice walk right the way into town - along the water with no roads to cross until you walk up and out of the valley - a further 5 minútes to walk to the centre. You are also close to one of the galleries reached before you hit town. I was walking along the path a few weeks ago on the opposite side of the hotel and reminding myself how beautiful this bit of Edinburgh is and how unique such a walk is so close to the centre.
