On Day 8 of this rigorous schedule, since you are at the Eiffel Tour, you might have time and energy left (unless you plan to scale the tower by stairs) to check out the nearby Branly Museum at 37 quai Branly. Quite new, and radically designed -- US rustbelt moderne -- it collects ethnographic treasures from around the world. Or, to put it another way, loot from the French empire. It sometimes stages special exhibits too. Its cafe and restaurant have received some praise, although not cheap. Information here: http://www.quaibranly.fr/en/

Revised itinerary below, thanks to my hero Greg. Would love suggestions for dinner/lunch. It's taken me two days to get this far ~ it's like researching a term paper! ~ so haven't had time to investigate restaurants. I'm a vegetarian so would welcome Vietnamese, Asian, Italian, and other veggie-friendly restaurants. Thanks!!!
Saturday, Day 1
1. Arrive/check in

Tuesday, Day 4

Buy the full pass (about E20) as this gives you access to the whole estate. From the Latin Quarter, take the RER C to Versailles-Rive-Gauche-château. You'll need to purchase a special ticket (zone 4), 2.90€. The trip takes about 40 minutes from St. Michel. Versailles is only a 30 minute train ride from Paris as long as you know to take the RER C to Versaille Rive Gauge which then takes you about a 5 minute walk to the entrance. Rent a bike to view the gardens. The bike rental is located behind the Palace down by the Grand Canal.

Based on the number of museums on your itinerary, I'll guess that you enjoy museums. If that's so, then consider allocating more time at the Louvre. You could easily spend an entire day there!
If you're really going to spend just one day in the Loire Valley, consider moving it up in your itinerary. That way, the four hours spent travelling can make that day kind of a rest day, compared to all of the moving around on your other days.
Enjoy!

Well, are you ready for another bad news? Because Louvre is closed on Tuesday, Versailles, while open, tends to get crowded. Sunday is another busy day. It is recommend to be there at the opening time any day, visit the apartment and any other areas in the main palace you care to visit. Expect wading through a sea of tour group people. Make sure you have general idea of where to enter the Chateau property (usually the left of the Royal gate) and where to enter the State Apartment (usually the right side, on the other side of the huge Royal courtyard just inside the Royal gate). The place is huge so not knowing where to enter chews up a lot of time. Think about how you navigate to other areas. The property is huge. Also, weekends, while crowded, has its own benefit:

I'd recommend going to the Orsay first thing in the morning. Maybe on Sunday? Then you could do a 4 day museum pass (Sunday - Wednesday). The Rodin garden only costs 1€, so you could get by without a pass on Thursday.
We loved the Saxe Breteuil market, which is on Thursday and Saturday. You can get picnic food and eat lunch in the champs de mars before the Eiffel tower.
If you are going to climb the ND towers, do that first thing in the morning, too. Admission is included in the pass, but you still have to wait in line.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!
Greg, you are absolutely right. Visiting Versailles on Tuesday isn't ideal. That's why I had planned to sneak in when it was closed ;-). The main areas of Versailles we want to see are the smaller buildings and gardens, so maybe we should get there early and tour those first? Thank you so much!!!

Rodin Museum opens at 10:00 unless you were thinking of getting in line around 9:30. There were perhaps 10 people ahead of me when I got in line at 9:50 last week.
http://www.musee-rodin.fr/welcome.htm
I did the gardens first, so I could take pictures with minimum number of people around. I went counterclockwise starting with the "Thinker," which is the first thing you see after leaving the ticket/special exhibit area. The main building, where you find the "Kiss," was still not crowded even an hour later.

Ardithl ~ Great suggestion on the Saxe Breteuil market. We can go there first that day.
Greg ~ Good idea to see the Rodin garden first.
Any ideas for:
Lunch in Marias on Sunday?
Heavy lunch on Monday before we visit Conciergerie?
Lunch and dinner Thursday?
Thanks!!!!

Can't wait to get the pistachio pastry at Dallayou when I am there...
At Berthillon, get the salted butter caramel ice cream!
Great place called Cafe Varenne not far from Musee Rodin...would be great for lunch after the museum.
