Will this itinerary result in a homicide?

Hello
We are planning a trip to Ireland, London & Paris in August. We are arriving in Dublin and traveling across the country to fly out of Shannon. Spending 6 days in Ireland. Flying to London and spending 4 days. From London either flying or taking the train to Paris. Spend 4 days in Paris. In order to use our miles we have to fly out of London, we can't fly from Paris to Chicago. Therefore the last day will be spent traveling from Paris to London to catch a 2:30 flight. I am worried that this could be much too hectic! Also - what is the recommended means of travel between London & Paris? Is the train more convenient? Your advice & experience is much appreciated!

I don't think your schedule is too hectic. Get out of Dublin as soon as possible, spend more time on the beautiful west coast (nearer to Shannon. Four days in London is good. Flight from London to Paris is only 1 hour, so no problem there. There is so much to see and do in London. Plane may be easier for you than taking a train. Get your flight to Paris to DeGaulle (Roissy) instead of Orley. It's easier to get to town from Roissy. You can take a shuttle to the train and train get you to town. Cab fare is about 250 francs. (As of last week)

Hi Kate, to be honest (and many will undoubtedly disagree with me) this does not sound like too much. People on this forum, myself included have done very similar itineraries and survived without resorting to homicide or suicide. You don't say if you are staying in Dublin on your first night or not. If you can, you should IMO since it's so very difficult to hop off an overseas flight and keep going after you land. 4 days in Paris is a nice ammount of time to get a feel for the city many people try to do it in a day or 2, it would take 3 lifetimes to really "know" Paris IMO same for London. I think that in order to keep your enjoyment level up you should focus on picking a few things in each place that you just "gotta see" and don't try to "do" everything. You will return for sure. Allow time for the particular brand of magic in each location to get you. Remember to take your vitamins and hand sanitizer, and have a great trip.

The only part that would worry me is doing Paris/London on the same day as your flight home. If you fly to London be sure you are going into the same airport your flight home leaves from. If you are "chunneling" take the earliest train you can...

Definitely check on where you'll fly into and where you'll depart to the U.S. from on that last day. If it requires a switch of airports, I would be tempted to return to London and overnight before the flight. I'll grant you that I'm being cautious, but have you ever missed an international flight? Not a good thing! Can easily result in homicide!! Good luck.

Kate,
Have you considered flying from Dublin to Paris and ending your trip in London? You might check into one of the discount fliers like Ryan Air. Touring Paris in the middle of your stay would take some pressure off you and quell the homicidal tendencies. Time devoted to each city looks reasonable, it's the order that's questionable.

Kate,

A few weeks ago I had a similar trip. We spent 1 week in Ireland then flew from Dublin to London for 4 days. On our last day of travel we flew from London to Dublin to Shannon to the US. We had to do it this way b/c the tickets back to the US were prize winning tickets therefore only good from Ireland to US. Needless to say it was hectic but we survived. You can catch up on your sleep when you get back. Well worth it. You will live!
