Will someone please help!! Glaskow or Edinburgh?

My buddy and I are looking to fly from Dublin into either Glaskow or Edinburgh. Which one would be recommended for nightlife, scenic value, pubs, golf and safety?

nightlife - Glasgow, scenic value - Edinburgh, pubs - a wash, golf - don't know and safety - a wash.

I think that's the first time I've been floored by transatlantic slang- a wash?

Nightlife- either; marginally Glasgow.
Scenic value- if you mean the city, Edinburgh; if you mean the countryside round about, Glasgow.
Pubs- both, but the styles are very different.
Golf- both. Edinburgh is close to the great east coast links courses like Muirfield and St Andrews, Gullane and North Berwisk. Glasgow is much closer to the clifftop courses like Troon and Turnberry. Both have municipal and club courses coming out of your ears.
Safety- both are safe as houses, except in places you wouldn't go anyway.

Sheila,

"A wash", on the left side of the pond, means that neither option has the advantage. In other words, the choices are about equal.

It helps if we can spell our destination correctly. Obviously you have researched it very thoroughly before coming here to ask about it.

Glaskow dear is what an ignorant American would call Glasgow, and no it's not an easy spelling error to make. Especially after doing a moment's research regarding your destination.

I don't think we can assume that drof is an American. Based on his postings, I'd guess that English is his second language.

Ann41, there are many, many Americans for whom English is a second language.

Sheila,

Turnberry, Troon - clifftop??. They're both links courses i.e. next to the beach, not a cliff in sight!

drof,

if you're flying to Prestwick from Dublin you're close to both of these courses and many others. The scenery in South West Scotland, i.e. around Turnberry, is superb and less well-known to visitors.

oops. I know the style is links, but I've never been there (as you know there is a big chain link fence round what was Strathclyde, with signs on it saying "here be Dragons") and on the telly it always looks as though thee's on the top of cliffs when the camera pans out to Ailsa Craig.
