Seriously people!

For my dad's 70th birthday, we went to La Taverne Kronenbourg at 24, bd des Italiens in the 9th. They have live piano music, and it was no problem to request a rousing 'Bonne Anniversaire' from the waitstaff.

Best of all they gave him the children's certificate with the Taverne lion mascot -- cheesy, but he loved it! Plus it was special to share a huge Choucroute with my Dad. Top food, excellent experience, I'd recommend it.

However I can't imagine this happening with an anniversary celebration ; )

Yes, TGIF here in the Big Apple does that, but can someone pls clarify: what on earth does "....sing Happy Birthday in Mexican" mean? Could it be Happy B*day in "Spanish"?; last I checked "Mexican" was an ethnicity, not a language.

p.s. no, I'm not Mexican.
How wonderful, The Joneses are travelling again! We all should take after their example, they are so careful not to offend the local culture and they really see trouble to "blend in". I can just imagine how nobody knew they were "ugly Americans" in Scandinavia last year, wearing those local helmets with horns, and taking part in Vikings Rape and Ravage festivals.

And now they want to do it right in Paris! Betty and Billy, you really are such model tourists!

Man, I gotta top "Viking" for the newbies!!

But, Betty and Bill I thought that after the little "poodle fiasco" and the extracurricular marital activities there'd be no anniversaire to celebrate, no???

I guess this is not a real question given the confusion between birthdays and anniversaries (and the Mexican is a dead giveaway), but I actually do know a place in Paris that does this, and quite well. It is La Coupole in Montparnasse. They sing, bring a cake with sparklers and make a big to-do. I was surprised to see this, but they do it regularly. I am wondering if B&B are not as naive as they pretend given the implication they know anniversaire is the French word for birthday. If a real request, why not -- tell them it's your birthday and it will sound like anniversary to you.

Annie, dear, you need a vacation. There's a remedial humor and imagination course that as its finale takes all the students off on a vacation not of their dreams, since they didn't have any, but promises to give them some. Can we persuade you to gign up?
