for the Navigo card that I intend to buy when I get there? By the measurements provided on website, it seems it is a little too big. Anyone ever used theirs? Thanks for the info.

It's fine. The ticket seller could even trim/tear it if needed. It's about the lowest level security ID in the world...

I think I could have given them a photo of my dog and it wouldn't have mattered.....and I do not resemble my dog.

Passport photos are 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51mm). Navigo are approx 1 x 1-1/4" (25 x 30mm). If you can cut down one of your passport photos to the right size, it will work. We actually used snapshots we took and printed on regular printer paper at home. No problem.

I would not bet on it being OK, but it may depend on the mood of who you get. I am looking at my passport and Navigo Découverte card right now. NO WAY would the passport photo fit they way it is intended on the Navigo card. What I did was scan my spare passport photo on to my computer then used photo program to shrink it down and printed it on photo paper. A Navigo Découverte card photo is supposed to be close to about 1" by 1"

I made a black and white xerox copy of passport pic and cut to size. Worked fine.

I used a photo I took at home for my actual passport (the US one). I took my husband's passport photo as well.

The objective of having your photo and name on the Navigo card is to preclude its being shared. If you are controlled by police or agents in the métro and your photo is not clearly you, the name printed on the card will be compared with your ID.

The fine for using an unsigned Navigo or a Navigo card without a photo, or using a Navigo that is clearly not yours is 30€, payable on the spot.

What bardo said: we went to the ticket window after rush hour, and the clerk pulled out a pair of scissors and trimmed ours to the right size, but hpeabody's idea is a good one if you have the scanner.

Most typical ID photos are too big. I just had a small pair if scissors and cut it to fit. But once many years ago when buying a Carte Orange, the clerk actually did it for me. But it is useful to have a small pair of folding travel scissors, if you can.

Not necessary at all unless you just want to make paper cutouts. Every métro station has scissors available you may borrow to trim your photo. If you really need it, they have glue as well.

So where are all these scissors available in all metro stations? You do know some are not even manned any more at certain hours.

Not to mention, that's kind of a silly reply since I carry them for many reasons other than that, I always have found them useful.

There are indeed some métro entrances which do not have information windows but neither do these entrances have ticket kiosks where you can purchase a Navigo Découverte. Certain entrances yes, but I know of no station that has no ticket kiosks and a corresponding service window.

At RER stations, there are agents selling tickets directly without pointing you to the kiosks.

The scissors are available at the window. Just ask or hold up a photo and the agent will know what you need.
