Will Maxim's close to the public?

I just read in my local newspaper that Maxim's has changed hands & may revert back to a private club. Does anyone have any details on this? Is this plan really in the works?
My husband and I were planning to dine there during our next visit in June 2004.

I think some of the frequent Posters to this forum do live in Paris & may have better knowledge of the story, since it's "local" news item for them.
Do let me know.
Thank you.

Who supposedly bought it? I don't live in Paris, but did read some news item on this place within the last couple of days in French press. It didn't say anything like that, just said they were going to do a refurbishment and start a new membership-fee club that is supposed to bring publicity/update the image. They already have a private club there, so I guess this is just being retooled, or a different kind.

Pierre Cardin owns it but has for years--he made it into a chain and licensed the name a lot. But the article I read didn't say Cardin sold it and it was from only about a week ago.

I could not find any information on the Maxim's site. However, I did think it strange that their reservation page for the restaurant, which I had viewed in the past, is no longer accessible.
