WIll I have problems with restaurants in Marseillle?
 

I (unfortunately) have a condition known as "Coeliac Disease" or "Gluten Intolerence" - i.e. I cannot tolerate gluten in my diet. Thanks to this site I have (through guidance) been able to pick a hotel in Marseille for next weekend, but can any fellow sufferers out there tell me if I will have a problem eating out safely with my "condition".????????? Help/Advice please!!!!!!!!

do you like seafood? I believe Marseille is known for excellent bouillabaisse (seafood stew). That shouldn't have any flour in it at all---just the seafood, tomatoes, herbs, etc. And it's delicious.

Other grilled seafood is fine too. Just avoid sauteed foods, which might be dusted with flour, and sauces which might be thickened with flour.

When I think of the culinary offerings of Marseille, the word "gluten" certainly doesn't come to mind. You should have plenty - and I mean plenty - of wonderful foods to choose from without worrying about gluten intolerance.

That said, if you're really concerned, write up a sentence or two about what you wish to avoid eating and post it back here asking for a translation. There are plenty of us who would be glad to help with that. You can print it out and take it with you.

My Daughter is also coeliac we went to Paris and Italy last year and had no problems, she took her own bread and cereal with her just incase, but she managed fine. There is a site on the internet that gives free translations in many languages for the coeliac disease, we printed them out, laminated them and took them with us, and just showed them to the waiter/chef, and they were absolutely fine with it. I hope i'm not breaking any rules posting the link to the site.
