Will flowers still be in bloom Amalfi Coast mid-Oct, Tuscany after?
Have only been to Italy in the off season and I'd like to know if we leave Oct. 11 for the Amalfi Coast and then to the Val d'Orcia area (and Spello) will there still be flowers blooming?
Thanks. |
You will see some on the coast, but few in Tuscany that late. The Tuscan fields all get plowed that time of year and it gives it a brown cast.

What about the flower boxes?
|
Yes, often flower boxes.

We were in Tuscany this past October. We had nice weather, warm and clear. There were some flowerboxes with geraniums. The fields were varied shades of brown but still attractive. There were some vineyards that had some pretty colors coming in--some vivid red leaves. A great time to visit.

We were in the Val d'Orcia for a week in late September '08. There were potted geraniums everywhere but the days were brisk and the nights quite chilly. All the fields were plowed up and, while it was STILL one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, we could only imagine how much more stunning it might have been before the harvest. To get an idea of what it might look like (although you're going later than we did), you can peek at my pics on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tara_lanning/sets/
