Will an old unpaid traffic ticket be a problem?

Many months after returning home from my last trip to Italy 10 years ago, I got a mail notice of a ticket for a violation picked up by a camera on one of the autostradas. Unsure of whether it was legitimate I never paid it. I'm planning a September trip and will be renting a car. Will that unpaid "ticket" be a problem?

10 years ago? No problem. Don't do it again.

In all my years of travel, I've never seen a post that answers this question. Please come back and let us know how your rental went.

Unless the agency handling your rental car has some sort of connection to the legal system in which the ticket is/or was a part of I somehow doubt this will be an issue. However, there is only one way for you, and if you report back, us, to find out.

A lot of those traffic tickets are linked to systems through which you can pay them on-line but that is now and it probably hadn't even been thought of ten years ago.

Maybe, maybe not. You'll have to tell US. Good luck.

You'll be hanged by the balls until you confess and pay. Now, if you're a woman, it might be even worse.

Honestly, nobody will bat an eye - even in well organized Germany after 2-3 years it was forgotten/forgiven/erased. Nobody keeps records for so long.

If you want to be extra prudent, rent with another company - but I just say so that you sleep better.
