Wilden-Mann hotel in Lucerne
Planning on spending a few days in May at this hotel. I am wondering if any of you have had any experiences , positive or negative, staying at this hotel? Our other consideration is Balances but their room rate does not include breakfast which is a definite negative in my opinion. Your input will be very helpful. Thank you

I stayed (again) at the Des Balances this past November and agree that the non-inclusive breakfast (which was included the previous stay) was a bit off-putting but I like the place and the location directly across from the Jesuit Church and near the railroad station (an important factor for me). I also like being in the so-called "old town" section.
The food that IS served at the Des Balances, especially the evening meals has always been several cuts above but THAT whole thing is subjective and personal and I don't care WHICH "foodie" you talk to...
I think rationale, even though you may not agree with it, helps.
Good luck and enjoy Lucern.

Hi skye5,
I'm another who has stayed at the Balances. For me, its location -- on the river -- is worth the extra cost of breakfast. I like being able to see water, so that's always been my choice. I loved looking out my bedroom window and seeing the ducks and swans bobbing on the water in front of the Jesuit Church. Also loved the big picture windows in the restaurant that overlooked the river - just lovely.
The Wilden Mann is also in the old town, but it won't give you a river or lake view.
Good luck!
