WI FI device advice?

Could anyone recommend good simple device to connect to WI FI hotspots in Europe?

I don't need phone capability at all - just Internet connection.
Would prefer tablet size.
And no monthly charges please - hope to just buy device and use it.

(And ideally it would be last year's model and dirt cheap.)
Thank you for any help!

iPad w/ WiFi only
Still honeymooning with mine, have not used it in Europe but niece used her iTouch (pretty much same thing just smaller form factor) on London & Paris WiFi without a hitch.

We love our iPAD and also our small iTouch, both with WiFi capability. Go to an Apple store and take a look at both.

Thanks very much - we have a MacBook at home so an ixxx sounds like a comfortable option.

Apple was a comfortable option until I checked prices = well out of my comfort zone.
(I'm willing to spend for a MacBook used daily, but not for a travel accessory.)

As I said in the OP, I really am hoping for dirt cheap ~ any ideas?
Thanks again.

Not sure what you mean by "dirt cheap" but this is what I used before I got my ipad; http://store.archos.com/internet-tablets-fi-89.html

As you'll see, the 7c is $220

HP is selling their tablet for very cheap right now. However, it'll be tough to find one.

Otherwise, you might also check eBay for used models of the iPod Touch. (They may have used iPads too, who knows.) Buyer beware, of course, but it could be an option. Apple also sells refurbished models, but I'm not sure that would save you all that much.

THe ITouch is around $200, new.

PS - I do use my iPod Touch daily. Whether you would depends on you, of course, but I use it to listen to music, books and podcasts anywhere, take with me on trips instead of a laptop, check email at home when I know opening my laptop would lead to all kinds of distractions that would keep me up late. :) I used it on my recent trip to Italy to download apps for public transportation and maps (no wifi needed once you download). It's a luxury item, sure, but a well used one for me.

Not a chance.

BACK FROM PARIS, and will report I was so pleased with the iPod Touch (inherited from a family member upgrading to iPhone.)

Hotel du College de France wifi worked beautifully and although I initially wanted tablet size, the iTouch was perfection itself.

With each trip, I'm more grateful for the experience and sound advice offered generously on Fodor's! Thank you.
