Why we pack light / carry-on only

Take a look at this

While most of us haven't lost bags - according to this it is getting up to nearly 10% lost/delayed bags. The article concentrates mostly on BA/Heathrow (which is a gawd awful mess) but includes bad news for other carriers too . . .

There is even a bit about BA advising passengers to not check bags. And the funniest - the mountains of luggage have been sent from LHR to Milan to be sorted.

As long ago as the mid 1990's, my then boss refused to travel thru Heathrow Airport. He would always fly KLM into AMS and then go on to Aberdeen where our UK office was located. He said they had lost enough of his luggage and he would never go thru there as long as he could avoid it. Of course that was when KLM was a pretty good airline and he had super elite status since he flew so frequently.

It's too bad that nothing has changed.

It's bad - but not that bad - not 10% rather 10 out of 350 - more like 2%

We stopped checking bags in the late 90' when our luggage was lost by AF - BOTH ways!
Carry- on is the way to go!

I'm much rather see what the likelihood percentage-wise of actually having a bag lost is.

I guess the key is to put your name and address INSIDE your suitcase too, not just on the outside..no reason for it to be lost then..delayed I can live with, lost not so!
